On embracing the weather

vera-pavlova-photography-autumn-5vera-pavlova-photography-mushroomAs the weather gets wetter and windier we tend to stay inside more. On days like that I love making apple pie and let the smell of it fill the house. Here’s an easy recipe I found on Kiss My Spatula blog.

  • 4 medium apples (peeled, cored and sliced)
  • 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp granulated sugar, divided
  • 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp brown sugar, divided
  • 1/2 tsp + 1/4 tsp cinnamon, divided
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • squeeze of fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
  2. Toss apples with 1 tbsp granulated sugar, 1 tbsp brown sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg and lemon juice. Pour into deep dish pie plate.
  3. Thoroughly mix together flour, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, 1/3 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, butter, vanilla and egg. Mix with the apples.
  4. Bake until apples are cooked and the topping is golden brown, about 45 minutes. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Autumn Leaves

vera-pavlova-photography-autumn-1Summer is over. Warm and sunny days are few and precious. Autumn as we know it has finally come to the Netherlands with its chilly mornings, rainy days and vibrant colours holding onto the branches of trees. It’s time to put on warm sweaters and prepare for the even chillier winter ahead.

An ode to creativeLIVE

I’ve already written a post about creativeLIVE in Russian a while ago. But I want to give a big shout out to them once more. And just to make things clear – it’s not an advertisement. I’m not getting paid to write this or anything. I just want to spread the word and share this great resource with anyone who’s interested.

The CreativeLIVE concept is an awesome one. It works like this: from their studio in Seattle creativeLIVE team broadcasts FREE workshops in photography, filmmaking, design, marketing, etc. in real time. Once a workshop is over it’s available for purchase and download through creativeLIVE online store. They work together with the very best instructors who so graciously share their knowledge and experience with the rest of the creative community.

I’ve followed their workshops for a while now. And I just want to say that they’ve been a great source of inspiration for me. There hasn’t been a workshop that I haven’t learned something valuable. They’re always exceptionally informative and so much fun. I would spend hours, days even, watching the workshops with an open mouth and a notebook, soaking the knowledge the creativeLIVE instructors give away.

CreativeLIVE is bringing more awesome stuff in October.

From October 3rd through 5th you can learn branding from Sarah Petty and Erin Verbeck of The Joy of Marketing.

From 11th through 13th Doug Gordon will teach you his unique flow posing system.

From 17th through 19th New York Times best-selling author Ramit Sethi will help you reach your personal finance goals by teaching you how to spend, save, and invest your money.

From 22nd through 24th fashion photographer Lara Jade will teach you how to integrate the elements of fashion photography into your business whatever type of photography you do.

On the 25th and 26th a workshop with an assemble cast of eight professional photographers from around the world and from various genres of photography will be broadcast from New York.

From October 30th through November the 1st New York based professional portrait and fashion photographer Lindsay Adler will teach you in-depth retouching and creative Photoshop techniques.

To watch the workshops online for free from the comfort of your home all you need to do is go to creativeLIVE upcoming courses page, choose a course and enroll. You will receive reminders with links to the stream and the chat when the course is live. Enjoy!
