If you build it, will they come?

Today marks two years since I launched my website and started blogging. I’m embarrassed to admit that when I embarked on this blogging venture I hoped the doors would fly open and customers come running through in droves. Little did I know that it would take two years for my blog to even be found.

There is more than enough information out there about building a strong online presence, increasing traffic, SEO, social media and what not, but what it really comes down to is this simple piece of advice: create quality content and blog it consistently.

I started this blog to find myself and be found, and  for the most part during my first year my audience consisted of my family and two good friends. Things only really started changing for me when I committed to blogging more frequently and started putting more thought into each post.

So if you do build it (an online presence), they (customers/followers) will come, provided that you create great content and keep your blog updated frequently. Keep in mind though that it’s not going to happen overnight. It never does. Things like this take time. Be patient and keep blogging. It can be frustrating at times, but it will be worth your while.
